Bachelor of Science Kinesiology/Option Areas of Study: All undergraduate programs include CORE CLASSES OF FOUNDATIONAL KNOWLEDGE in kinesiology, targeted areas, and a culminating professional practice, internship, or student teaching experience. The faculty is committed to providing an exemplary undergraduate education that includes full-time tenure faculty teaching the undergraduate classes. Faculty mentoring and the opportunity to engage in research projects are available to motivated students. (Lower Division Requirements)
ATHLETIC TRAINING OPTION is designed as a Pre-Athletic Training option. The program is not accredited by the NATA but students still get the option to train under the direction of Certified Athletic Training staff and work with athletic teams at CSUH. To be certified, students would need to attend an accredited entry-level graduate program.
EXERCISE NUTRITION AND WELLNESS OPTION provides preparation for certification from ACSM, NSCA, or ACE. Graduates pursue careers in cardiac rehabilitation, fitness/wellness programs in corporate, community or commercial settings, personal training, or attend graduate school in fields such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, and sports medicine.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHING OPTION is nationally recognized as an extremely successful teacher education program. It is considered an approved program by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. As a result, graduates of this option are highly successful in obtaining admission to any Teacher Credential Program in the state of California. There is an excellent record of job placement in public and private schools. In fact, the placement rate for these students has been 100 percent over the last five years. Many graduates of this option return to graduate school to pursue advanced degrees.(Sample Schedule)
PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY OPTIONis designed to provide a curriculum that ensures the completion of 90 percent of the requirements for application to the 11 physical therapy masters programs in the state of California. In addition, this curriculum will provide for successful application to many physical therapy masters programs nationwide. Ninety percent of the students applying for the highly competitive positions in these post-graduate physical therapy programs are accepted on their first attempt. The department is extremely proud of this acceptance rate.
