PIONEER WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM DROPS FIVE-SET MATCH TO CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY

Monterey, Calif. - The Pioneer women's volleyball team stands at 6-13 in CCAA play and 8-20 overall following a 3-2 setback to Cal State Monterey Bay on November 6. The scores were 21-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 12-15. The Pioneers scored the last four points including a pair of Katie Glomb service aces to win the fourth set. In the fifth set, the Pioneers closed the gap to 13-11 on a Roxanne Neely kill. Cal State Monterey Bay recorded a kill to win the fifth set and the match. Sukhjit Athwal had 15 kills followed by Brianna Bryant with 11 attacks. Glomb had three service aces and was outstanding on defense with 19 digs.

CAL STATE EAST BAY WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM DEFEATED BY #2 RANKED U.C. SAN DIEGO IN THREE SETS

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer women's volleyball team dropped a three-set match to #2 ranked U.C. San Diego on November 4. The scores were 25-16, 25-20, 25-18. In the second set, the Pioneers had an early 9-3 advantage only to see the Tritons tie the score 15-15. U.C. San Diego went on a 10-5 run to capture the second set. Cal State East Bay and U.C. San Diego were tied 15-15 in the third set.The Tritons outscored the Pioneers 10-3 to take the third set and the match. Katie Gellerman had six kills and a .267 hitting percentage for the Pioneers. Roxanne Neely and Sukhjit Athwal had five and four kills respectively. U.C. San Diego, which hit for a .316 percentage, is now 17-1 in the CCAA and 25-1 overall. Cal State East Bay stands at 6-12 in conference and 8-18 overall.

CAL STATE EAST BAY FALLS ON SENIOR DAY

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay men's soccer team closed out its first season in the CCAA with a 2-0 loss to seventh-ranked Cal State LA on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers honored senior Alex Reyes during Senior Day festivities prior to the match and finish the year with a 1-19-0 overall record and an 0-16-0 mark in league play. Click for more

PIONEERS TOPPED BY NO. 16 CAL STATE LA

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team finished its season with a 2-0 loss to No. 16 Cal State LA on Sunday at Pioneer Field. The Pioneers honored seniors Britanie Strei and Carissa Martin on their last day in the Red and Black, and finish the season with a 3-14-3 overall record and a 2-13-2 mark in the CCAA. PIONEER VOLLEYBALL TEAM SUFFERS TOUGH FIVE-SET MATCH DEFEAT TO STANISLAUS STATE

TURLOCK, Calif. - The Pioneer women's volleyball team suffered a tough five-set match defeat to Stanislaus State on October 31. Cal State East Bay won the first two sets 25-13, 25-22. Stanislaus State captured the third and fourth sets by scores of 27-25 and 25-16. In the fifth set, the Pioneers took a 9-6 lead on a Katie Glomb service ace and maintained a 14-13 advantage on an Ariel Ajagu kill. Stanislaus State scored the last three points to win the hard earned match. Sukhjit Athwal led the Pioneers with 16 kills while Ajagu had 14 attacks and a .344 hitting percentage. Athwal completed a double-double with 11 digs. Roxanne Neely and Glomb each had three service aces.

PIONEER VOLLEYBALL TEAM PLAYS HARD IN THREE-SET MATCH DEFEAT TO CHICO STATE

CHICO, Calif . - In a a hard-fought match from the start, the Pioneer women's volleyball team lost to host Chico State in three sets. The scores were 25-21, 25-20, and 28-26. The Pioneers trailed 9-3 in the first set and cut the Wildcats lead to 24-21. Cal State East Bay committed an attack error to give Chico State the 25-21 victory. In the second set, the score was tied 12-12 when Chico State went on an 11-5 run to secure the win. The Pioneers led 20-18 in the third set, only to see the Wildcats comeback and take a 24-21 advantage. Cal State East Bay battled back to tie the set 24-24 and was able to stave off two match points as the score remained tied 26-26. The Wildcats recorded back-to-back kills to take the hard earned victory. Ariel Ajagu had seven kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Cara Crowder also had seven kills for the Pioneers. Roxanne Neely had four service aces. Chico State, which had a .300 hitting percentage, improves to 12-5 in CCAA action and 21-6 overall. Cal State East Bay stands at 6-10 in conference and 8-17 overall.

DEFENDING CHAMPS UPEND CAL STATE EAST BAY MEN

HAYWARD, Calif. - Despite holding Cal State Dominguez Hills scoreless for the final 75 minutes on Friday afternoon, the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team could not overcome three early goals for the Toros, falling 3-0 at Pioneer Field. Defending national champion Dominguez Hills got a hat trick from Greg Piechota in the first 15 minutes of the match and took 31 shots in its second win of the season over the Pioneers. PIONEERS TO CAP SEASON WITH PAIR OF TOUGH TESTS

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay men's and women's soccer teams will close out their first season in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a pair of matches against the two of the top teams in the league this weekend at Pioneer Field. The Pioneers will play host to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday before celebrating Senior Day on Sunday against Cal State LA. The games mark the second time in three weeks that the teams will meet, with East Bay looking for redemption after falling to the Toros and Golden Eagles in the first round of the South Division matchups. PIONEER WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM DROPS FOUR-SET MATCH TO NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR

BELMONT, Calif. - Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team stands at 8-16 for the season following a 3-1 setback to non-conference opponent Notre Dame de Namur on October 27. The Pioneers won the first set 25-17, but lost the next three sets 25-20, 25-23, 25-23. Both teams recorded 52 kills. Ariel Ajagu had a match-high 15 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Sukhjit Athwal and Krystal Robinson followed with 11 and 10 kills respectively. The Pioneers had 71 digs led by libero Lauren Massa with 18. Katie Gellerman had 11 digs.

PIONEERS CLIPPED BY CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO IN OVERTIME, 1-0

HAYWARD, Calif. - Despite a gritty performance with an injury-plagued lineup, the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker, 1-0, to Cal State San Bernardino in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Field. The Pioneers hung with the Coyotes - ranked fourth in the West Region - for nearly 95 minutes before Danny Rodriguez put away the game-winning golden goal in the first overtime period. PIONEER WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM DEFEATS CS DOMINGUEZ HILLS IN FOUR SETS

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer women's volleyball team improved to 6-9 in CCAA play and 8-15 overall following a 3-1 victory over visiting CS Dominguez Hills on October 24. Roxanne Neely and Ariel Ajagu each had 11 kills for the Pioneers. Neely added 22 assists. Amanda Limeberger had a solid match with 26 assists and 10 digs. Brianna Bryant led the Pioneers with six block assists.

FORMER PIONEERS MAKE WAVES IN EUROPE

HAYWARD, Calif. - With their collegiate playing days over, many student-athletes look ahead to graduation and life outside the sports' realm. For former Cal State East Bay baseball players Ray Stokes and Marco Cartagena, however, the next step was a trip to Europe to experience baseball abroad. Over the summer of 2009, Stokes and Cartagena tried their hands at life and baseball in Germany and Italy, respectively - traveling, learning and playing in a foreign language on a continent better known for its love of goals than homeruns. Pioneer athletics accepted for CCAA membership

Cal State East Bay will begin competition in NCAA Division II and the California Collegiate Athletic Association as a "scheduling partner" for the 2009-2010 athletic year, with eligibility for conference championships when the NCAA approves it for "active status." The CCAA membership includes San Francisco State, Sonoma State, Chico State, Humboldt State, CSU Monterey Bay, CSU Stanislaus, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Los Angeles, CSU San Bernardino, and UC San Diego.

Cal State East Bay is a member of the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). Cal State East Bay sponsors 15 Intercollegiate sport programs.

The Cal State East Bay Intercollegiate Athletic Program has developed into a successful non-scholarship program. Since 1961, the Pioneers have won a total of six national collegiate championships. Over 160 CSUEB All-Americans have been produced at the national level along with 77 Conference Championships. In 2005-2006 twelve sports qualified for post season competition. The Physical Education Complex houses a 3,500 seat gymnasium, two swimming pools, training rooms and a spacious weight room. Outside facilities include University Stadium for soccer, softball and baseball fields, tennis courts, and a field house.
