The WWPA
Cal State East Bay women’s water
polo is a member of the Western Water Polo Association conference (WWPA). The
WWPA is multidivisional and one of the toughest conferences in the
country. It consists of 12 teams, which
compete in an end of the season tournament, the winner automatically qualifying
for the Division I NCAA national championships. The Conference includes 4 Division I (Loyola Marymount, UC Davis,
Colorado State, Santa Clara), 5 Division II (UC San Diego, CSU Bakersfield, CSU
San Bernardino, CSU Monterey Bay, Sonoma State), and 3 Division III (CSU East Bay, UC Santa Cruz,
and Chapman) universities.
Academics
With a student-faculty ratio of
22:1, Cal State East Bay offers a level of learning interaction sometimes only
matched by small private colleges. With
small classes, East Bay offers a personalized learning environment to its 13,
455 students. The University offers 46
baccalaureate degree majors, 66 minors, and masters degrees in 29 fields. Cal State East Bay water polo players have
developed a tradition of academic excellence receiving Academic All-American
team honors for the past 4 years. The
program has also produced 21 Individual Academic All-Americans.
The Campus
Cal State East Bay is situated on
342 acres of beautiful hillside overlooking the entire San Francisco Bay.
It has spectacular views and on a
clear day from the top of campus you can see the 5 bridges, including the
Golden Gate. The campus is situated in
the heart of the Bay Area and is roughly 30 minutes drive or train from the
city of San Francisco.
National Schedule
Cal State East Bay plays some of
the best programs in the country in all divisions. The last couple of years the pioneers schedule has included
division I powerhouses such as The University of Hawaii, Loyola Marymount,
Hartwick College, and Maryland.
It is unique in that it is the only Division III School in the CSU
system. East Bay competes for the
non-sciac west bid to the 8 team, Collegiate III National Water Polo
Championships. Qualifying for the first
time in 2004. CSUEB has qualified for the national championships for the past 3 years.
Nationally Ranked Program
Head Coach Lisa De Rossi has established Cal State East Bay as
one of the premier Division III water polo programs in the nation. For the past 3 years, CSUEB has ranked in the top five at the national collegiate championships, including a 2nd place national finish in 2005 and their first championship game appearance. The pioneers are knocking on the door of a national championship and looking to make history along the way.
