PIONEER MEN'S SOCCER TEAM CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON WITH 5-10-3 RECORD
Cal State East Bay finished the 2008 regular season at 5-10-3. Cal State East Bay was 3-3-2 in its last eight matches. Pioneer goalkeeper Kristopher Hall has allowed 1.28 goals with four shutouts. The Pioneers concluded the regular season with a pair of defeats to Saint Martin's College 3-0 on November 1 and 1-0 to CSU-Monterey Bay on November 2. Cal State East Bay and Chapman University played to a 1-1 tie on October 24. The Pioneers defeated La Sierra University 4-1 on October 26. Cal State East Bay and Academy of Art University battled to a 0-0 tie on October 20. Pioneer goalkeeper Kristopher Hall turned away seven shots to record his fourth shutout of the season. The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 advantage, but lost to U.C. Santa Cruz in overtime 3-2 on October 15. Frank Quintana and Mohammed Airuwayshid accounted for the Pioneers two goals. Cal State East Bay defeated La Sierra University 2-0 and University of Dallas 3-1 last week. The Pioneers were defeated by U.C. Santa Cruz 1-0 on October 1. Cal State East Bay lost to Chapman University 1-0 on September 27. The Pioneers outshot Chapman University by a 17-6 margin. Mohammed Airuwayshid had four shots on goal. Cal State East Bay lost a pair of home matches against Master's College 1-0 on September 15 and Fresno Pacific University 2-1 on September 20. Manuel Cardenas, with an assist from Arnoldo Mendoza, scored the Pioneers lone goal against Fresno Pacific. Goalkeeper Kristopher Hall recorded eight saves in the two matches. The Pioneers lost to Linfield College 1-0 on September 8, tied George Fox University 2-2 on September 10 and were defeated by Concordia University 5-0 on September 11. Cal State East Bay won its home opener over Cascade College 1-0 in double overtime on September 13. Christian Eteti, with an assist from Stephen Nichols, scored the game winning goal. Cal State East Bay returns a quality group of returning players including senior goalkeeper Kristopher Hall who recorded five shutouts and had a 1.24 goals against average. Hall was named Association of Division III Independents second team. Mohammed Airuwayshid, the Pioneers leading scorer with nine goals and one assist and first team Association of of Division III All Independent performer, returns for his senior year. Ante Jozinovic, the Pioneers second leading scorer with eight goals and an Association of Division III Independents honorable mention performer, returns for his junior campaign. Senior Diego De Alba, with three goals and two assists, returns in the midfield. Jordan Ferrell, a key contributor towards a Pioneer winning 2007 season, will be back for his senior campaign. The Pioneers are led in defense by senior Nolan Smith who earned honorable mention recognition on the Association of Division III Independents All Independent Team.
CAL STATE EAST BAY MEN'S SOCCER TEAM CONCLUDES WINNING SEASON WITH TWO OUT OF THREE VICTORIES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Cal State East Bay concluded the 2007 season by winning two out of three matches in Southern California on November 2-5. Cal State East Bay defeated Cal Tech 4-1 on November 2, lost to Chapman University 2-0 on November 3, and concluded the season with a 2-0 victory over La Sierra behind goals by Ante Jozinovic and Nelson Rodriguez. The Pioneers won their seventh match of the season defeating Chapman University 3-0 on October 27. Diego De Alba and Nelson Rodriguez scored in the first half giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Mohammed Airuwayshid added his team leading eighth goal in the second half. Kristopher Hall turned away seven shots to record his fourth shutout of the season. In a 1-0 Cal St East Bay victory over Dominican University, leading scorer Mohammed Airuwayshid accounted for the Pioneers lone goal. Goalkeeper Kristopher Hall turned away four shots to record his first shutout of the season. In the win over William Jessup on October 3, Ante Jozinovic recorded a hat trick while Jordan Ferrell converted a penalty kick. On October 6, Cal State East Bay lost to U.C. Santa Cruz 2-0. The Pioneers lost to U.C. Santa Cruz 3-1 on October 13. Jordan Ferrell converted a penalty kick to account for the Pioneers lone goal. Cal State East Bay snapped a two-match losing streak by defeating Embry-Riddle 2-0 on October 21. Diego De Alba and Mohammed Airuwayshid accounted for the Pioneers two goals. Kristopher Hall turned away a season-high seven shots to record his third shutout of the season.

Goalkeeper Kristopher Hall had 88 saves, five shutouts, and a 1.24 goals against average. Airuwayshid was selected to the Association of Division III Independents first team. Hall was named to the second team while Ante Jozinovic, Nolan Smith, and Ethan Ferrell received honorable mention recognition.
CAL STATE EAST BAY 2007 PREVIEW
A strong nucleus of returning players plus a promising group of newcomers give the Pioneer men's soccer team a solid foundation for the 2007 season. Nine players return from the 2006 squad which finished with a record of 5-8-2. Leading scorer midfielder-forward Nelson Rodriguez (6 goals-1 assist) returns for his senior season. In the midfield the Pioneers will feature senior Gregorie Youbara along with juniors Diego De Alba (5 goals), Ante Jozinovic (4 goals), Jordan Ferrell and Dylan Kiyomura. Daniel Mottram, from Kingston University in England, will compete for playing time in the midfield. Ayed Binshahbal, from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, along with senior Cesar Leyva will see action at the forward position. A strong Pioneer defense will be led be senior Ethan Ferrell and junior Jesus Gonzalez along with newcomers Nolan Smith (Napa Valley College) and Tedros Tamene (Tennyson High School). Three players will compete for the goalkeeper position: Diljeet Sekhon (Chabot College), Kristopher Hall (Modesto Junior College), and freshman Zurisadai Cortez (San Leandro High School).
