PIONEER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM CONCLUDES ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON
Cal State East Bay finished the 2007-08 season with a record of 15-12 and was second in the Cal Pac at 11-5. The Pioneers defeated Menlo College 61-48 in the semi-finals of the Cal Pac Conference Post-Season Tournament. Amy Elliott led all scorers with 23 points including six 3-pointers. Jenene James scored eight points and 11 rebounds. A successful season came to an end for the Pioneers as they lost the Cal Pac Championship game to Holy Names University 52-46. Michelle Hobbs scored 10 points on 5 of 8 from the field. Jenene James led the Pioneers on the boards with 14 rebounds. Bianca Benschop came off the bench to score eight points and grab six rebounds. The Pioneers were 10-2 at home and for the season averaged 62.6 points a game. Cal State East Bay allowed 55.8 points per game. The Pioneers had 294 steals compared to 209 for their opponents. Amy Elliott, who was named to the All-Cal Pac Team, averaged 10.3 points a game. Elliott led the Pioneers with 62 three-pointers, 144 assists (7th-NAIA 5.63) and 54 steals. She had nearly a 2-1 assist to turnover ratio (144-73-8th NAIA). Jenene James, averaged 8.5 points and 6.2 rebounds a game. The Pioneers split a pair of road Cal Pac Conference games to conclude the regular season. Cal State East Bay lost to William Jessup 60-42 on February b14. Cal State East Bay concluded the regular season on February 16 with a 69-27 victory Pacific Union College. Jenene James and Bianca Benschop each scored 14 points for the Pioneers. Amy Elliott scored 10 points. Cal State East Bay split a pair of home games over the weekend. Cal State East Bay defeated U.C. Santa Cruz 71-55 on February 8. Ashley Butler led the Pioneers with 14 points and nine rebounds. Amy Elliott followed with 11 points and seven assists. The Pioneers lost to Cal Maritime 60-54 on February 9. Ashley Butler and Breanna Carson led the Pioneers with 12 and 11 points respectively. Jenene James, who scored nine points, led the Pioneers on the boards with 13 rebounds. The Pioneers improved to 10-3 in Cal Pac Conferenc play with a 75-62 victory over Dominican University on February 2. Cal State East Bay trailed 36-26 at halftime, but outscored Dominican University 49-26 in the second half. Ashley Butler led four Pioneer players in double figures with 13 points. Jenene James had 10 points and eight rebounds. Cal State East Bay improved to 7-1 in the Cal Pac with a 62-48 win over visiting Bethany University on January 19. Amy Elliott led the Pioneers with 15 points and nine assists. Jenene James and Kelsey MacKenzie followed with 14 each. James completed a double-double with 10 rebounds. The Pioneers made it four straight victories with an 87-17 win over Pacific Union College on January 17. Kelsey MacKenzie led three Pioneers in double figures with 12 points. The Pioneers recorded an 88-57 victory over Dominican University on January 5. The Pioneers converted 14 of 29 three-pointers and outrebounded Dominican University by a 42-36 margin. Breanna Carson and Amy Elliott each scored 19 points to lead the Pioneers. Carson led the Pioneers on the boards with a season-high nine rebounds. Elliott had eight assists and three steals. Jenene James scored 11 points while Nicole Hornage contributed to the Pioneer victory with nine points and seven rebounds. Cal State East Bay lost two games in Washington on December 29-30 to Lewis and Clark 85-73 and Puget Sound 86-52. Amy Elliott came off the bench to lead the Pioneers with 20 points including six three-pointers against Lewis and Clark. Nicole Hornage followed with 16 points on 7 of 12 from the field and 2 of 3 three-pointers. Hornage and Breanna Carson each scored 11 points against Puget Sound. Elliott was named to the All-Tournament team. The Pioneers were defeated by George Fox University 72-46 on December 18. Amy Elliott led the Pioneers in scoring with 10 points. Cal State East Bay opened Cal Pac Conference play on December 6 with a 64-46 victory over Bethany University. The Pioneers led 25-21 at halftime and outscored the Bruins by 14 points in the second half. Breanna Carson led three Pioneer players with 15 points on 5 of 7 from the field and 3 of 4 three-pointers. The Pioneers lost a defensive battle to Menlo College 43-41. Nicole Hornage led all scorers with 17 points on 7 of 10 from the field . Hornage led the Pioneers on the boards with nine rebounds. The Pioneers defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 70-39. Cal State East Bay shot 56.3 percent from the field in the second half and had a 38-31 advantage on the boards. Cal State East Bay concluded tournament play with a 62-47 victory over U.C. Santa Cruz. Elliott led the Pioneers 14 points while Breanna Carson came off the bench to score 10. The Pioneers held a 51-32 rebound edge led by Nicole Hornage with nine rebounds. The Pioneer women's basketball team lost two games in Southern California to open the 2007-08 season. Cal State East Bay lost to U. Redlands 74-55 on November 16 and Chapman University 85-68 on November 17. Amy Elliott led the Pioneers with 14 points while Bianca Benschop added 10 against Redlands. The Pioneers had four players scored in double figures against Chapman. Elliott led all scorers with 22 points including 5-three pointers. Nicole Hornage added 11 points while Jenene James and Ashley Butler scored 10 each. Hornage and James also pulled down six rebounds. The Pioneers return four players from last year including All-Cal Pac performers Breanna Carson (11.0 points per game-team leader with 37 three-pointers) along with Amy Elliott (35 three-pointers). Jenene James will be back for her senior campaign while Aundrea Jones returns for her junior campaign. Newcomers expected to contribute for the Pioneers this season include Jaime vandeSande (5'7-Guard) and Bianca Benschop (5'10-Center) both from San Jose City College, Angela Steward (5'3-Guard) and Kelsey MacKenzie (5'4-Guard) both from Notre Dame de Namur, along with Nicole Hornage (5'9, Forward) Scottsdale Community College.
CAL STATE EAST BAY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM CONCLUDES 2006-07 SEASON
Cal State East Bay women's basketball team completed the 2006-07 season at 7-19 and 6-10 (6th) in Cal Pac Conference action. Breanna Carson led the Pioneers in scoring with an 11 point per game average and 11.8 in the Cal Pac. Carson, named to the Cal Pac All-Conference team, had a team-best 37 three-pointers. Nicole Scott averaged 10.1 points a game. Scott averaged 5.8 rebounds a game. Marilou Orense, averaging 7.7 points a game, led the Pioneers with 99 assists and 45 steals. Natalie Pitre was the Pioneers top rebounder at 7.9 rebounds a game with a team-best 25 blocked shots. Amy Elliott, who received honorable mention Cal Pac Conference recognition, had 35 three-pointers in 14 games.

The Pioneers lost a first-round Cal Pac Confernce playoff game to Cal Maritime 81-69. Carson led the Pioneers with 18 points. Courtney Warren came off the bench to score 15 points in 18 minutes.

Nicole Scott led five Pioneer players in double figures with 16 points. Amy Elliott followed with 15 points on five three-pointers. Natalie Pitre and Courtney Warren each scored 14 points and recorded a pair of double-doubles with 11 and 10 rebounds respectively. Cal State East Bay defeated Simpson University 78-43 on February 15. Pitre scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Terilyn Goode followed with 13 points. The Pioneers were defeated by U.C. Santa Cruz 64-59 in a non-conference game on February 14. Cal State East Bay lost to Dominican University 79-63 on February 10. Natalie Pitre and Amy Elliott each scored 14 points for the Pioneers.

CAL STATE EAST BAY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL 2006-07 PREVIEW
The 2006-07 Pioneer women's basketball team will be bidding for their eighth consecutive winning season. Last year the Pioneers finished with an 18-9 record. During the seven year period, the Pioneers have posted an impressive record of 143-72. Once again the 2006-07 Pioneers will feature quality returning players along with a group of newcomers expected to make immediate contributions to a successful season. Gone from this years' team are NAIA II All American and leading scorer Iman Young along with NAIA II Scholar-Athlete and All-Cal Pac performer Sarah Thornton. "Iman's scoring and Sarah's inside game will be missed," said Pioneer head coach Sara Judd. "We certainly have players who can step in and do the job both offensively and defensively." "Our team will have a more balanced offensive and defensive attack. We'll spread out the scoring and rebounding this season." Senior Marilou Orense, with 58 assists and a 5.5 point per game average in 2005-06, will run the Pioneer offense from her point guard position. Junior Breanna Carson, who led the Pioneers with 39-three pointers while averaging 8.4ppg, will see a lot of action at the off guard spot. "Marilou has come along ways and will run the offense this season,"Judd said. "Breanna is an outside scoring threat who will also make plays on defense." The Pioneers strength at the guard position is bolstered by the return of seniors Terilyn Goode and Cori Lane. "Terilyn is a hard-nose defender and an aggressive all-around player," Judd said. "Cori is the heart of the team and a team leader." "She'll be ready to play when called upon." Junior Amber Samaniego and Jennifer Lauretta (Mission College) will also see action at guard. In the post, the Pioneers return four-year senior Natalie Pitre. A 51 percent shooter, Pitre averaged 4.6 points and 5.7 rebounds a game last season. She had a team-best 26 blocked shots. "Natalie has worked hard during practice and we expect her to have a big senior campaign." Nicole Scott, who averaged 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds a game last season, will see a lot of playing time at center and forward. "Nicole is a double threat both scoring and rebounding," Judd said. The Pioneers have two more post players in freshmen 6-3 Reanita Mitchell from Condell's College Preparatory and 5-10 Lindsay Fisher have a good feel for the game and will develop into a pair of nice players," Judd said. LaNeice Morgan, a transfer from Lewis & Clark State College and former Hayward High School player, will contribute at the center position. Cal State East Bay will have balance at the forward position led by junior Jenene James along with sophomore Aundrea Jones(4.9ppg-2.9rpg). "Jenene is a gifted athlete who has really come along,"Judd said. "Aundrea will improve following a good freshman campaign." Courtney Warren, who missed the entire 2005-06 season with an injury, is a scoring threat both inside and outside while Zuleeka Mohammed (DeAnza College) will see her share of playing time at forward. "I'm excited about the potential of this team," Judd said. "We'll be in the mix in a competitive Cal Pac Conference if we can rebound, execute offensively, and play good team defense."

Cal State East Bay women's basketball team finished the 2005-06 campaign with an 18-9 overall record and an 11-5(third place tie) in the Cal Pac Conference. The Pioneers made a dramatic second half comeback, only to fall short to #1 Menlo College 50-48 in the third round of the Cal Pac Conference Post-Season Tournament. Cal State East Bay trailed 27-14 at halftime, and took a slim lead late in the contest. Iman Young scored 23 of her game-high 28 points in the second half. Cal State East Bay advanced to the third round of the Cal Pac Playoffs by defeating Bethany College 69-57 on February 23. Iman Young recorded a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Marilou Orense came off the bench to score 14 points on 6-of-8 from the field and 2 of 3 three-pointers. Nicole Scott contributed to the Pioneer victory with eight points and nine rebounds. Cal State East Bay competed in Cal Pac Conference post-season play for the eighth straight year. The Pioneers reached the NAIA Nationals during the 2002-03 season. -63. In the latest NAIA statistics, the Pioneers ranked fifth in offensive rebounds (17.1) and 10th in steals (12.8). The Pioneers scored 80 or more points in six games and averaged 70.6 points a contest, one point shy of a school record. Iman Young, from Hayward High School, led the Pioneers in scoring and was 11th in the NAIA with a 19.5 point per game average. Young was sixth in the nation in steals (3.5). She also had a team-high 86 assists and was selected as the Association of Division III Independents December Athlete of the Month. Young scored 20 or more points in 11 games including a season-high 35 points against Whitman College. Young was named the Cal Pac Conference Newcomer of the Year and Honorable Mention NAIA Division II All-America. She set a school record with 16 field goals made in a game and tied another mark with 15 free throws converted in a game. Sarah Thornton, who was selected Cal Pac Conference Co-Player of the Week (January 31-February 4), Cal Pac All-Conference, and 2006 Daktronics-NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete honoree, averaged 11.8 points and 6.2 rebounds a contest. Thornton was 21st nationally in offensive rebounds (3.4). Nicole Scott averaged 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds a game. Breanna Carson, averaging 8.4 points per game, led the Pioneers with 39 three-point baskets. and was fourth in Division II in 3-point field goal percentage (0.459). Cal State East Bay concluded the regular season by splitting a pair of games. On February 17, Cal State East Bay lost to Dominican University 63-56. Marilou Orense led the Pioneers in scoring with 15 points including three 3-pointers. Scott and Carson scored nine points each. The Pioneers concluded the regular season on February 18 with a 59-51 non-conference victory over Notre Dame de Namur. Scott and Carson both came off the bench to lead the Pioneers in scoring with 11 points. Natalie Pitre contributed to the Pioneer victory with eight points, nine rebounds, and six blocked shots. Pitre tied a school record with six blocked shots in a game.
CAL STATE EAST BAY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL 2005-06 PREVIEW
The Pioneer women's basketball team is hopeful of continued success during the 2005-06 season. For the seventh consecutive season, the Pioneers posted a winning record in 2005 of 17-10. Since 1998, Cal State East Bay has compiled an impressive record of 125-63. The 2005-06 Pioneers feature quality returning players along with a solid group of newcomers. Gone are NAIA Division II All-American and Cal Pac Conference Player of the Year Leah Thornton along with All-Conference performer Candida Reyes. "We lost two strong leaders in Leah and Candida," said Pioneer coach Sara Lillevand Judd. "I'm pleased with the solid group of returnees plus our new players who should make an immediate impact." Third-year player Marilou Orense (3.7ppg) will have the opportunity to step into a key role at guard. Sophomore Breanna Carson is a scorer who will contribute in the Pioneer back court. Iman Young, a solid around player from Arizona State and former prep star at Hayward High School, along with Jenene James, who last played at Larsen CC IN 2003-04,are two outstanding newcomers for the Pioneers. Three more newcomers to watch are Terilyn Goode, from San Jose City College, point guard Julia Aguila from Solano Community College and wing Courtney Warren from Diablo Valley College. In the post, the Pioneers return junior Sarah Thornton who averaged 5.9 points and 4.7 rebounds a game during the 2004-05 campaign. Natalie Pitre, who shot 47 percent from the field last year, is expected to play a more physical role in 2005-06. Senior Stephanie Vorrises will contribute at both the forward and center positions. The Pioneers solidified the post position with the addition of newcomers Nadia Zotea (Merced Junior College) and Nicole Scott (Sierra College). "It's fun as a coach to try new things with the caliber of players I have this season," said Lillevand-Judd. "I'm excited about the upcoming season."
