Michelle Collay, Ph.D. is Associate Professor, Department of Educational Leadership,
CSU East Bay, California. She supports teacher and positional leader development
through graduate education programming and site-based school coaching. Most
recently, Collay was a School Change Facilitator at the Bay Area Coalition for
Equitable Schools where she coached school leadership teams in Oakland and San
Francisco. Previously, she worked as a faculty member and administrator in
teacher preparation and graduate teacher education in public and private
universities. Collay conducts seminars and workshops about professional
learning communities, constructivist learning design, and portfolio development.
Publications include: Constructivist Learning Design: Key Questions for Teaching
to Standards, co-authored with George Gagnon (Corwin Press, 2006); and Learning
Circles: Creating Conditions for Professional Development, co-authored with Dunlap,
Enloe, and Gagnon (Corwin, 1998). Before completing doctoral studies in Curriculum
and Instruction at the University of Oregon , she taught music and mathematics in
elementary and junior high school and continues to play bassoon in local chamber
ensembles. Collay is a parent leader in her children’s neighborhood school in
Oakland.
