In our very diverse world, managing organizations has become more complex. A Master of Science in Recreation & Tourism provides an in-depth understanding of the fast-paced, increasingly difficult challenges in the world of recreation, hospitality and tourism. Through exploring literature, theories, and methods of scientific data collection, our graduates will be prepared for the working world’s legal, personnel and ethical dilemmas.
This innovative program is offered completely online and utilizes interactive
learning activities designed to challenge and inspire intellectual growth. Students
attend class when they are ready to learn rather than at a specific time, such as in
the evening after a full day of work. The program is not self-paced; discussions
happen asynchronously and students complete weekly assignments. This learning method
is different in that students are not only receivers of knowledge but are more actively
engaged in their own learning. Students will be asked not only to absorb facts and
theories but also to discover and create knowledge that is useful in the real world.
Application Procedure.

Faculty
The faculty members of the Department of Leadership in Hospitality and Leisure Services are currently or have been leisure, tourism and hospitality professionals both in the industry and higher institutions of learning. Their research projects and programs afford students an opportunity to learn advanced knowledge and analytical skills and how to conduct joint projects. The faculty members encourage student success by discovering and excelling in learning the theories and techniques and applying them to the professional world. Right now one of the faculty is working with the Visitors and Convention Bureau in the Tri-Valley Region and has involved students in projects and another is working with the Oakland Visitors and Convention Bureau doing and economic impact study. Another big research area in our department is the effectiveness of online learning. LHLS Faculty
